Cultural Arts of Waco sponsors three major sculpture projects in Waco:
Doris Miller Memorial
The Doris Miller Memorial project is designed to create a memorial to honor Doris Miller, a national WWII hero who was born and raised in Waco. The total budget for this exterior art work is $1,350,000, which includes all expenses and fees of the artist(s), as well as engineering costs, on site delivery, site preparation and installation. All types of proposals are encouraged including figurative, historical pictorial components and those that may incorporate water, landscape elements, etc.

Cultural Arts of Waco works to increase access to the arts for each of the city’s nearly quarter of a million residents through projects including the Waco National Outdoor Sculpture Invitational. Each year the sculpture invitational brings a renowned artist to Waco to create and install new artwork, which remains on view in the city for at least 22 months.
Branding the Brazos
The Chisholm Trail – the very name conjures up images of cowboys and longhorns. An important part of Texas folklore and history, the Chisholm trail is a big part of Waco’s history, too. Through a generous million dollar donation from local businessman Clifton Robinson and his wife, Betsy Robinson, the Waco Cultural Arts Fest is bringing that history to life. Thanks to their financial contribution, life sized sculptures of scenes from a Chisholm Cattle Drive will grace the banks of the Brazos River in Waco. Artist Robert Summer’s sculptures promote art in public spaces as well as celebrate our rich history. Western sculptor Robert Summers has been commissioned to complete the Waco Chisholm Trail Heritage Sculptures. A cowboy sculpture and a nearby bronze longhorn are only the beginning of the Waco Chisholm Trail Heritage sculpture project at Indian Spring Park. Three additional riders on horseback and a total of 25 longhorn cattle are expected to be featured, paying homage to Waco’s role along the historic cattle-drive trail.
