Competition Guidelines

  • POETS MUST SIGN UP IN PERSON THE DAY OF POETRY SLAM
  • First come First served... up to 20 poets.
  • Three Age Brackets Three Winners! Ages (9-12) - (13-16) - (17-18)
  • Poets need to be there no later than 6:30 to sign up and get the rules.
  • Two rounds - all 20 poets recite in 1st round.
  • Only 10 come back in the 2nd round.
  • 5 Judges Chosen From The Audience. Olympic style scoring. 0.0 - 10.0
  • Poem has to be 3 minutes or less.
  • Poems can be on any topic. Keep in mind it’s a Family Friendly Atmosphere.
  • Criteria: Originality-Content-Performance
  • NO ENRTY FEE!

About Michael Guinn

The event will be hosted by Michael Guinn of Fort Worth Slams. Michael is a member and co-founder of the Emmy nominated performance poetry troupe "Spoken Images" as well as founder and captain of the Fort Worth National Poetry Slam Team, ranked third in the country for 2005.

Michael has also placed at several competitions including most notably the New Word Series in Berkeley 2004, a finalist at 04', 05', 06 Austin International Poetry Festivals, winner of The Last Poet Standing-Houston- 2005-06, finalist Toronto International Poetry Festival and the Bluebonnet Poetry Festival. Michael has performed all over the nation and is one of the most sought after spoken word artist in the US.
